Adler Arts Center Expresses Deep Disappointment Over Village Denial of 10-Year Lease and Forfeiture of $100,000 Government Grant

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – The Adler Arts Center has been informed that the Village of Libertyville Board of Trustees has decided to give the Center a lease of no more than five years, a decision that not only undermines the future of this beloved community institution but also results in the forfeiture of a critical $100,000 capital grant from the State of Illinois.

The decision to deny a 10-year lease renewal, coupled with the loss of significant funding, is not just a setback for the center; it is a missed opportunity for the entire Libertyville community. Note that the Center has been operating under a 20-year lease until it expired in April 2024.

For many years the Adler Arts Center has attempted to work with the Board and Village administrative staff to negotiate a fair and reasonable lease renewal. Considering the Board’s decision and lack of communication, we will be moving forward with a petition campaign to rally support for the Adler Arts Center and inform the public what has transpired. We call on the Board of Trustees to reconsider its decision, recognizing that supporting the arts is an investment in the future of Libertyville.

The $100,000 capital grant from the State of Illinois was contingent upon securing a long-term lease.  Without a minimum 10-year lease these funds will be lost, depriving our community of essential resources that would have supported arts education, public performances, and community outreach programs.  We remain hopeful that, despite this setback, we can find a way forward that will ensure the continued growth and success of the arts in Libertyville.
